Like California Dreamin' this pattern was inspired by a trip to the United States long ago - on our honeymoon in fact.

We had landed in New York and spent some time on the East Coast, exploring New England and Boston.

Whilst in the area we took a whale watching boat trip with a local oceanographic institute. The people guiding the trip were interested in the wellbeing of the whales - which was what appealed to us about that particular boat.

We were lucky enough to see whales, they were spectacular. My overriding memory of watching them leaping and crashing their huge tail flukes against the surface of the water was that they seemed to be having fun - perhaps even showing off. To each other, to the boats entering their territory - who knows, but it's why I named this pattern design 'Whale of a Time'.
